Sisters of the Omicron Chapter of Phi Sigma Rho

ABOUT US

History of Phi Sigma Rho

Phi Sigma Rho is a social sorority for women in engineering and engineering technology. Its alpha chapter was founded in the spring of 1984 by Abby MacDonald and Rashmi Khanna at Purdue University. The alpha chapter consisted of ten members. The reason for founding the sorority was simple-Abby and Rashmi were unable to participate in traditional sorority recruitment due to the demands of their engineering curriculum. So, they decided to start their own engineering sorority instead. Over the course of the next 24 years, Phi Sigma Rho has grown to twenty-two chapters from coast to coast.

Phi Sigma Rho serves its sisters and the community by:

  • Promoting the highest standards of personal integrity and character
  • Promoting academic excellence and supporting pesonal achievement, whle providing a social balance
  • Encouraging its members to maintain sorority involvement with the alma matter and the community through responsible participation
  • Encouraging its members to maintain the bond of sisterhood with alumnae members through communication and various sorority functions.

In April, 2003, CASE's Panhellenic Council approved expansion, and the Phi Sigma Rho Colony was accepted as an Associate Member. A petition for a charter was submitted to Phi Sigma Rho National Committee during the summer of 2003. Three beta class members joined the Colony in September 2003. In October, 2003, the Colony was approved to receive a charter. On December 6, 2003, the Phi Sigma Rho Case Colony became the Omicron Chapter of Phi Sigma Rho when the Alpha and Beta classes were initiated.
